A must for the Plastic Surgery Resident

This book covers all the basic info that a plastic surgery resident should know, in a small, pocket size book. You can carry it over, and let's you do quick reviews of diagnostic and therapeutic measures while on the move.

I definitely recommend this book as an aid to have on the go, besides the basic books you should have in your shelf for a deeper reading.

Great For Plastics rotation

ALthough not as Comprehensive as Grabb and Smiths or another full size textbook, this pocket guide is a really fantastic summary of everything you need to know at the 4th year medical student level or PGY1. It is great to carry around and refresh info before going into a case or right after seeing a consult. I would use it this way so that I was always ready for pimping/questions. I would highly reccomend this book to anyone considering going into plastics or for residents to carry around with them in their junior years.

The only negative about this book I found was there was not enough pictures/diagrams of what they were covering in text. Sometimes this would mean I would know what a technique or method was called and what it was for but could not visualize it or name it when I saw it being done.

Great of any interested med student!!

This is good book for any student that is the least bit interested in plastic surgery. It will cover all the basic info you need for a plastic elective rotation or away rotation. As a 3rd year who just had a rotation at a private plastic surgery office I definitely recommend and so did my preceptor (he thought it was great to have)!!

Very insightful read.

This book ranges from in-depth discussions on various micro-endemic Acacia tress and the percentages of DMT within them, to beautiful insights on the nature of the psychedelic experience and what it shows us about simply being human . Julian's 'articulations' on psychedelics feels like it comes from a place of wildly far-out exploration and successfully meaningful integration, a rare combination. I found a deep sense of being able to relate with his insights and his (baseline) mental landscape. Somehow this man has been able to take some of the most potent doses of psychedelics I can imagine and recapitulates them into accessible wisdom about everyday life. Great Read.

A Welcome Dose of Clarity

As the title indicates, this book is composed of Julian's musings on how various psychedelics may be most efficaciously engaged and utilized. His approach is extremely pragmatic and lucid, eschewing uber-trendy pseudo-shamanic glamour in favor of a more stark and honest confrontation with the mystery of What Is.
This slim volume is worth more than a thousand Ascended Master Shamans™.

My only minor complaint is that there are a few glaring typos which should have been caught by the editor.

Essential for anyone interested in Changa and other contemporary psychedelic modalities.

Want a DIFFERENT perspective on psychedelic uses?

If you want a real-world, open-minded, easily-absorbed and well-articulated read on the use of psychedelics in a contemporary time, then this is the book for you. Encompassing traditional and modern ideals with respect (well, mostly lol) and humour, Articulations gives a great perspective from a person who seems to have a wealth of first-hand knowledge (unlike ANY mainstream media publication). I enjoyed the apparent credo of "make your OWN mind up;" this is something I believe in utmost... "think for yourself, question authority" as the late Bill Hicks put it.

The author has an easy writing style which isn't overly hampered by verbosity or "high-and-mighty arrogance" as some publishings get. Yet clearly the author knows what he's talking about in regards to various psychedelic substances. A uniquely Australian perspective is also greatly appreciated considering the potential for a healthy psychedelic culture to blossom in all aspects of future health scopes; physically, mentally, and spiritually.

If you're stuck and aren't sure what direction to go in next, the exercises in this book will get you thinking and then, hopefully moving. It is well written and is practical with a dash of spirituality thrown in.

I actually signed up for her coaching as well. Did not believe the experience to be beneficial. Spend �30 more and go to a therapist who would be not only qualified to coach you through the simple stuff, but would be qualified for the tougher things too - which EVERYONE has by the way. The last session booked with Louise I paid for and never got. It was left just like that.

To complicate matters he is made aware of the reason for his chronic back pain when he is diagnosed with an incurable blood and bone cancer. It was during Tommy's most challenging time when the cancer had eaten four inches from his vertebra and ravaged him of thirty pounds that the school's head master (Dickie) promised that he would always have a job and insurance until his eventual demise. This promise quickly lost the support of the school's board which led Dickie to try and get rid of Tommy any way he could. Their measures caused a divorce, taking his job as well as his insurance and leaving him half way around the world with little hope. In an ensuing conversation with an old friend from England, he divulges many of the notes he had written during the ordeal. Tony who was a brilliant educator then suggested that Tommy use the writings made during the ordeal be put together in a book. Armed with the hope of some type of justice, Tommy finds motivation to fight back and be heard. This is the account of his observations and thoughts during these turbulent years.

THE DEFINITIVE BOOK FOR CLEANING UP "MENTAL CLUTTER" HOLDING YOU BACK!

I have been a victim of "monkey mind" for as long as I can remember. Years ago, when I tried to get a better handle on the events that were controlling my life, I focused on the external forces that I was sure had everything to do with my success [and failure] in life. If I was happy, something made me happy. If I was sad or depressed, something else made that happen, too. In my quest to gain greater control of my own life I realized that the thoughts I was creating every moment had everything to do with the quality of life I would experience at any given moment. Getting to the point, "Declutter Your Mind" is a powerful book on gaining total control of your mind, environment and shaping the future as you want it to be and not just relying on life to happen as it should.

In their third book in this series, Steve [Scott] and Barrie [Davenport] have written a book that targets one of the most critical areas we all struggle with: a life full of clutter. As they point out from the intro, your thoughts create reality, from stress and productivity to feeding into emotions, we can control and direct our thoughts to work for us instead of against us.

The book kicks off with the 4 causes of mental clutter:
• Stress
• The Paradox of Choice
• Too Much Stuff
• The Negativity Bias

The next section gives us four mental declutter habits that add serious weight to both physical and mental health. The first is "Focused Deep Breathing" where we learn the full value of focusing on deep breathing on a regular basis. The second is "Meditation" and the authors say "we suggest meditation as a tool to help you train your mind and control your thoughts." Steve and Barrie introduce the simple 11-step process to use for building the mediation habit. Next is the "Reframe All Negative Thoughts" habit. Here you will learn the "six strategies you can use throughout your day to break the pattern and begin taming your mind." Finally we have the "Teach Your Old Mind New Tricks" habit. Here we have four great strategies for gaining greater control of your thoughts instead of being a slave to them.

Honestly, I was sold on this book after the first chapter. The 4 Mental Habits are enough to add incredible value to your life. But there are three more sections that add more weight:

Part 2 is about "Decluttering Your Obligations" and determining the Core Values as, according to the authors, “one of the simplest ways to eliminate mental clutter and live a more fulfilling life is to define your values and guiding principles for your life." In this section we learn four awesome strategies for nailing your life values, clarifying priorities, Mindful Goal Setting with Quarterly Smart Goals, and Connecting Goals to Passions.

Part 3, Decluttering Your Relationships, is the section of this book I needed the most. Because relationships are largely responsible for driving many people into stressful fits of rage, from kids to parents to friends, you don't want to miss this part. Declutter Your Relationships introduces 4 Relationship Strategies guaranteed to improve, empower and strengthen your communication with people. On every level you can have relationships that function in a healthier way. Steve and Barrie show us that by being mindful of others, we develop deeper levels of empathy and emotional control.

Part 4 is about simplifying your surroundings. Where you spend the most time has a huge impact on your happiness and state of mind. This section has enough juice in it to make your living space a business powerhouse if you clean it up. As the authors state: "When your environment is cluttered, the visual chaos restricts your ability to focus."

How to improve... everything

I am from Germany so please don't kill me for mistakes. De cluttering your mind isn't my first book by Steve Scott so I already knew I can expect something good. He never fails to help me improving my life.
De cluttering your mind consists of 4 parts: thoughts, life obligations, relationships and surroundings. This is a perfect order to actually declutter successfully because only when your head is free you can tackle other obstacles. This book isn't just telling you that you should change something but it shows you strategies on how to do it. I havent had the time yet to try themy out yet but there are several strategies so everyone can find the right one and I know from previous books that they really work.

You aren't too lazy, busy or old to change your life. Just grab this book and get started. If I can do it, everyone can.

Written for the Overwhelmed

I'll start this review with my subjective opinion of the book’s shortcomings:
1. The author doesn’t mention using exercise as a technique against mind clutter.
I know that exercising isn't a method to declutter your mind per se, but neither is gratitude journaling. And that was indicated as one of the ways you can deal with clutter in your head.
I was surprised by this "omission", because I know that S.J. is a fitness nut (compared with to the majority of the population); this maniac runs marathons.
Two advantages of exercising that come to mind off the top of my head: it reduces stress, and it provides you the time to think through your issues.
Exercises were mentioned many times throughout the book, but never as a one of the main remedies against mind clutter.
2. Divorcing to reduce mind clutter.
I guess it's a cultural thing. My worldview doesn't include the possibility of divorce. Period. For me, this section of the book equated to the planning of murder in cold blood, while considering its pros and cons.
Barrie and Steve were first to admit that "Letting go of any relationship is not a quick proposition", but they included this section in the book anyway. It sent some cold shivers down my spine.
That’s a very short list of “shortcoming.” The list of benefits this book offers is much longer.

Here’s a few I’ve highlighted:
1. A wide range of ways to tackle "voices in your head" are described.
Having now read about organizing your space to reduce "digital clutter", I agree it is a very sensible approach to reduce the number of impulses that stimulate your monkey brain. When the authors systematically explain how those things contribute to your mind clutter, it's obvious. However, I wouldn't have thought about this on my own.
In addition, other sections made immediate perfect sense, like improving one's self-talk.

2. There is detailed and methodical advice about the “voices in your head.”
This topic does seem a little woo doesn’t it? Voices in Your Head. Yet I'm amazed how down-to-earth this book was for me. It's hard to explain without reading the content.
To aptly illustrate the ease of applying the book's content: the day after reading it, I performed the "loving meditation" technique described inside.

3. You can easily identify the parts which will be useful.
I think this is the biggest strength of "Declutter Your Mind".
Each piece of advice stands alone; a small part that can be taken and applied without reference to the rest. Each piece of instruction is clear and to the point. You will find little to no fluff in this book.
Because of how separate parts of the book are organized, you can read the Table of Contents, open only the part that refers to your situation (e.g. you have problems with self-talk or relationships) take a few pearls from that part and immediately implement them.
I've read the whole book only because I was interested how the authors tackled such a big and seemingly mysterious subject. But I could have had major benefit from reading only the part about relationships, as that is an area in which I experience some troubles.

4. This book is written for the overwhelmed.
I'm astounded how well "Declutter Your Mind" is organized. The instructions are highly detailed too.
Considering the wide range of techniques and suggestions offered, it might be thought that a ‘cluttered mind’ would go into overload. Not so. At each step you receive detailed step-by-step advice on how to clean up untidiness in your head.
You’ll find this book a treasure if you struggle with in-your-head noise. You’ll be armed with a whole arsenal of loaded anti-clutter weapons.

5. There are many personal stories.
This is why I love self-publishing. This book doesn’t preach theory, it illuminates good practice.
Barrie and Steve struggled with these issues like any of us (and they still struggle occasionally), and they’ve shared their experience in a relatable way. Their stories make it easier to retain their lessons

6. I identify with their methods.
Mind clutter is an issue that spills into all areas of life. As an author and coach, I regularly prescribe many of the methods indicated in this book: gratitude journaling, writing things down, journaling and more. I know that they work; I’ve experienced this firsthand, and confidently vote for their approach.

In summary: This book is a gem for people overwhelmed by the number of things they have to juggle on a daily basis (which seems like everyone on this whole crazy planet).
You can take "Declutter Your Mind", target your problem areas and immediately apply the solutions given.

Depression era boy moves to city, cures his homesickness by painting

Australian author Jill Morris and illustrator Geoff Hocking have created a story that is lavishly illustrated and tells the tale of Alexander who lives on a farm, where he enjoys the life and color of the animals around him - sheep (and a brown dog who helps to round them up), cows, chickens, a cat and her kittens - and a tall gray horse which Alexander will one day ride. When he is big enough. But times are hard. People are moving to the city. The farm is sold. Miserable with his new life in a crowded city street, Alexander is given a box of paints with which he paints the colors of the country on the city walls. He even paints the sun! As he sleeps, his pictures come to life and bring new hope. A great addition to the library of any collector of fine children's books.

Practical or Basic Railway Engineering

I found this book to be a bit basic for my use. I know the book was targetted at Undergrads but a bit more detail would have been useful. Also reference to standards would have helped. The scope was quite wide and the book has good bones. More a bedside table book than a reference book.

I recommend not to waste money on this book. Very disappointing book from Imperial College London. The name is deceiving. There is nothing about practical railway engineering.

I reviewed this book when my friend has bought. Thanks God I did not buy myself.

Worthwhile investment for those in CM or GC

I used this book in my CM class as a senior in college. The book is pretty comprehensive and a lot of the info didn't make sense until I actually started in the field of general contracting and construction management. Now the info in the book is understandable. I would recommend the book.
